China's Natural Gas Meters Installation Fuels Massive Methane Emissions Crisis
Methane emissions during the installation of natural gas meters in China were measured using a mass balance approach. The study found that methane emissions from residential and commercial natural gas meters have a fat tail distribution, with higher emissions for commercial users. Total methane emissions in China from 2007 to 2021 were estimated to be 3.80 million metric tons, with the highest emissions in southeastern provinces. This research helps in understanding and reducing methane emissions in China's natural gas sector to combat climate change.
