Roadside trees in Benin hold key to fighting climate change.
Roadside trees in Benin Republic's Plateau Department store a significant amount of carbon, helping to combat climate change. Researchers measured the height and diameter of trees along roads in Kétou, Pobè, and Sakété to estimate their carbon stock. The total above-ground biomass, carbon stock, and carbon equivalent of these trees were found to be 154.53 mt, 72.63 mt, and 266.55 mt, respectively. This shows that roadside trees in the area play a crucial role in capturing carbon and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
