Urban Lakes Shift from CO2 Emitters to Absorbers During Algal Blooms
Urban lakes in Central China were studied to understand how algal growth affects CO2 levels. Moderately-eutrophic lakes release more CO2 when not in bloom, but absorb CO2 during algal blooms. Lightly-eutrophic lakes emit less CO2 during blooms. Chlorophyll-a and oxygen levels influence CO2 dynamics in lakes. Algal growth and decline phases impact CO2 levels and exchange flux in urban lakes.
