A new type of tube with better energy absorption was created by adding rib plates like cutting a cake. The tube was divided into sections with different numbers of cells, and simulations showed it absorbed 46% more energy than a traditional tube. By optimizing the cutting configuration, the new tube absorbed 17.4% more energy. This cake-cutting method offers a fresh way to design thin-walled structures for better energy absorption.
