Rooftop Solar Panels Slash Building Energy Costs in Tropical Climates
This study looked at how solar panels on buildings affect their heat and energy use in Mauritius. They tested different types of solar panels on the roof and walls of a typical office building to see how they made the building warmer and used energy. The solar panels on the roof helped reduce the extra heat in the building by 8% or 15%, while the panels on the walls didn't make much difference. In terms of energy use, the wall panels actually made the building use more energy by 1.66%, but the roof panels saved around 5% of energy. Overall, the roof solar panels did a better job of keeping the building cool and saving energy compared to the ones on the walls.
