Deadly Tomato Bacteria Spreads to Potatoes, Peppers, and More Plants
The goal of the research was to test how a harmful bacterium called Clavibacter michiganensis affects different plants like tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and more. The researchers infected these plants with the bacterium and observed the symptoms. They found that tomato plants showed wilting and yellow leaves, while petunias had yellowing tips. Potatoes developed yellow leaves and brown rings on their tubers, and peppers lost their leaves. Eggplants and tobacco plants did not show any symptoms. The bacterium was detected in all six plant species after 60 days. This shows that Clavibacter michiganensis can harm a variety of important plants.
