New research reveals how beaches naturally recover after storm erosion.
After storms erode sandy beaches, they naturally recover by moving sand back onto the beach with the help of waves. Researchers studied over 70 studies worldwide to understand how beaches recover in different wave and tidal conditions. They found that beaches mostly grow back on their own, with sandbars and deposits moving from offshore to onshore areas. The recovery process involves rebuilding sand volume, shorelines, berms, and dunes. This study provides new insights into how beaches recover after storm erosion.
