Varicocele surgery boosts fertility in infertile men, restoring normal sperm quality in a third.
The study looked at how fixing varicoceles, swollen veins in the scrotum affecting sperm quality, affects male fertility. The researchers focused on men with varicoceles and poor sperm quality, and after surgery, they saw significant improvements in sperm parameters, with a big boost in sperm movement. Around a third of patients ended up with normal sperm quality after the surgery. Notably, the surgery was most effective for men with poor sperm movement and count, where almost one out of five men improved to normal sperm levels. So, correcting varicoceles can help enhance sperm quality for many men experiencing fertility issues.
