Forests in China's Shaanxi Province Emerge as Powerful Carbon Sinks, Boosting Climate Goals
This research looked at how much carbon is stored in forests in Shaanxi Province, China, and how it changes over time. They found that from 2005 to 2015, the forests in the area stored more carbon, increasing from 207 Tg to 285 Tg. This means the forests are helping absorb carbon from the air, acting like a big carbon sink. Looking ahead to 2060, they predict that the carbon stored in tree forests will keep growing, increasing from 237 Tg to 432 Tg, which is good news for fighting climate change. This shows that Shaanxi's forests are important for storing carbon and can help China reach its goals for reducing carbon emissions. By taking care of the forests and using new technology, more carbon can be stored in the future.
