Groundwater overexploitation causing land subsidence and loss of water storage capacity.
Land subsidence caused by excessive groundwater pumping can lead to aquifer compaction and reduced water storage capacity. A new method combining satellite technology and a spatial model was used to study different aquifer groups in Beijing. Results showed varying settlement rates and decreasing water storage capacity in different aquifers due to geological differences and groundwater use. This research helps in managing groundwater resources sustainably and controlling land subsidence.
