Teachers' intrinsic motivation key to student success and teacher retention.
Teachers and teacher candidates need to be motivated for students to be motivated. A study looked at what makes teachers motivated and how to increase their motivation. They found that when teachers are intrinsically motivated, it helps them teach better, be happier in their job, and keep teaching. It also helps students learn better, makes teachers want to improve themselves, and reduces burnout. When teachers feel like they have control, good relationships, and are competent in their job, they are more likely to be motivated. This study gives us a better understanding of what makes teachers motivated and suggests ways to help them stay motivated in the future.
