Biochar application boosts crop yield and fights global warming effectively.
Organic materials like straw and biochar can help improve crop yield, store carbon in the soil, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A study analyzed data from 112 research papers to see how straw and biochar affect these factors. Biochar was found to increase soil carbon storage by 30.72%, while straw increased it by 6.92%. Both methods boosted crop yield, with biochar showing a slightly higher increase. However, straw led to a 37.69% increase in greenhouse gas emissions, while biochar reduced them by 23.94%. Factors like climate, soil type, and initial carbon levels in the soil also played a role in the outcomes. Overall, using biochar seems to be a good strategy for improving agriculture while also benefiting the environment.
