Coconut shell concrete lacks durability, limits use in water-exposed projects.
Concrete made with coconut shell aggregates was tested for durability properties. The surface hardness remained consistent regardless of the amount of coconut shell used. However, the concrete became lighter, less resistant to electrical flow, and more absorbent when 50% of the natural gravel was replaced with coconut shell. This suggests that coconut shell concrete may not be suitable for applications where it is constantly exposed to water or harmful substances.
