Researchers have developed a new method called super long gravity heat pipes (SLGHPs) to extract geothermal energy from deep underground reservoirs. This method can produce high thermal power without using electricity and avoids common issues like pipe scaling. SLGHPs offer a safer and more sustainable way to harvest geothermal energy compared to current methods. However, challenges remain in terms of low thermal power output and cost-effectiveness. Despite these challenges, SLGHPs show promise for extracting geothermal energy from hot dry rock reservoirs.
