Future climate change to bring 1.05x increase in extreme wave heights.
Future climate change is expected to intensify typhoons and increase extreme weather events, making it crucial to accurately estimate the probability of wave heights in the future climate. In this study, high-resolution wind fields were generated using WRF downscaled simulation of d4PDF meteorological data to efficiently estimate wave heights for specific return periods. By analyzing historical typhoon data and d4PDF typhoon track data, a method was developed to estimate wave heights based on the central pressure of typhoons for a given return period. The estimated 50-year probability wave height in Tokyo Bay showed an increase of approximately 1.05 times in the central part of the bay.
