Humans and livestock in Turkana are closely connected, with nomadic Turkana relying on livestock for food and livestock relying on humans for protection and resources like water. The relationship between human and livestock populations is important, but studies on the demographics of nomadic pastoralists and their herds have been limited until recently. This chapter explores the population dynamics of the Turkana and their livestock, setting the stage for further demographic studies.
