High-yielding Broad Bean Varieties on the Horizon with Genetic Advancements
The study evaluated different types of broad beans to see which ones had the most variation and heritability in their traits. They grew 18 genotypes and found that traits like number of seeds per plant, number of pods per plant, and seed yield per plant had high variability and heritability. This means these traits can be easily passed down to future generations. The study suggests that selective breeding can be used to improve these traits and develop better, high-yielding plant varieties.
