New Water Filtration System Boosts Removal of Contaminants by 85%!
The researchers tested a new water filtration system called Upflow Biological Aerated Filter (BAF) to improve water quality in rivers used for drinking water. They used zeocarbon as the filter media and found that BAF removed 80-85% of UV254, dissolved organic carbon, and other contaminants from the water. BAF was also effective in removing NH4+ -N, with column-shaped media performing better than ball-shaped media. The results suggest that BAF is a better alternative to rapid sand filters for improving water treatment efficiency.
