Revolutionizing Soil Mapping: Bottom-Up Approach Beats Traditional Methods
Bottom-up digital soil mapping is more accurate than traditional soil mapping and top-down digital soil mapping. Researchers created a detailed soil map called BUDSS using a bottom-up approach, which predicted soil properties more accurately than the widely used USDA SSURGO map. In comparison, top-down digital soil mapping methods like SoilGrids 2.0 and POLARIS were not as accurate as the bottom-up approach. This study shows that bottom-up digital soil mapping is essential for improving the accuracy of soil maps, especially in areas with strong soil survey programs.
