New study reveals key atmospheric patterns behind summer rains in Iran.
The goal of the study was to identify circulation patterns during summertime precipitation events in southeastern Iran. The researchers used data on precipitation rates, atmospheric levels, and satellite images to analyze 62 cases of Extended Area Precipitation Events. They found five recurring patterns that caused these events, with three patterns contributing to 71% of all cases. These patterns had distinct directions and were crucial in creating the summertime precipitation in the region.
