Groundwater discharge in curved rivers impacts river quality and ecosystems.
Groundwater discharge locations in curved rivers are hard to pinpoint due to complex interactions between river and groundwater. By using radon isotopes and measuring temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen, researchers identified six areas of groundwater discharge in the lower Ganjiang River. Groundwater discharge is more significant on the east bank and mainly occurs in the front neck of concave and convex banks. This suggests that regional groundwater flow heterogeneity plays a key role in groundwater discharge in curved rivers.
