Emerging discipline of foresight evaluation reveals gaps in future planning
Foresight evaluation, a field within futures studies, has been underexplored. A review of 186 academic papers from the past 30 years reveals that research in this area is still emerging, with a focus on topics like Policy Projects, Future Methodology, Technology, and Future Impact. However, there is a lack of active research on topics beyond technology. Evaluative elements like impact and quality are commonly studied, but there is a need for more emphasis on learning. Predictive and planning frames are popular, while less predictable frames are not as well-researched. The study suggests that both researchers and decision-makers need to play a role in advancing foresight evaluation.
