Algerian camels' gut bacteria reveal key to improved livestock digestion.
The researchers studied the bacteria in the stomach of Algerian camels to understand how they help with digestion. They looked at the DNA of bacteria from 25 camels and found that most of the bacteria belonged to three main groups: Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, and Proteobacteria. These bacteria made up almost all of the bacteria in the camels' stomachs. The researchers also found that the type of food the camels ate affected the kinds of bacteria in their stomachs.
