Forecasting Extreme Rainfall: Katsina City Prepares for Climate Change Challenges
Climate change has caused unusual weather patterns, including extreme rainfall. To better understand and predict extreme rainfall, researchers studied rainfall data from Katsina city in Nigeria from 1989 to 2019. They used Extreme Value Theory to model extreme rainfall events and found that the Frechet distribution was the best model. They also predicted return periods of 2, 20, and 100 years, showing that as the return period increased, so did the return levels. The models created were found to be well-suited for the dataset.
