Fear and stress hinder students' success in statistics education in Africa.
Statistical literacy is important for students in universities, but many struggle with it. A study at a university in Zimbabwe looked at 185 students' attitudes towards statistics. They found that students often feel scared, stressed, and anxious about statistics because they think it's too hard and they lack confidence. Lack of good technology and teaching environments also contribute to poor performance. However, students still see the value of statistics for their future careers and are willing to work hard if they are motivated. To improve, teaching methods need to change to focus on group learning, using technology more, and having smaller classes for better support. More research is needed to update the statistics curriculum in African countries.
