Greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural waste in Ukraine can be slashed by switching to anaerobic fermentation.
This study looked at how much greenhouse gases are released from different ways of treating agricultural waste in the Odessa oblast. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere and cause it to warm up. Human activities, like farming and using fossil fuels, are big sources of these gases. The researchers found that the amount of greenhouse gases released from traditional waste treatments in farming is much higher than from using a process called anaerobic fermentation on farm waste. If we don't do anything about it, these emissions could go up by 30% by 2050. The study aims to help farmers pick ways to lower greenhouse gas emissions from their waste management practices.
