New Indicator Reveals Impact of Mining on Land Subsidence Rates
Coal mining causes land to sink, which damages buildings and nature. To estimate this sinking accurately, a new method using the strength of the ground is suggested. By studying data and using a computer model, it was found that the ground's strength affects sinking more than previously thought. Different strengths of the ground lead to different amounts of sinking. A new mining method could help control sinking in coal mining areas.
