Unlocking Hidden Soil Patterns: Enhancing Digital Mapping with Field Observations
Field observations of soil texture can enhance digital soil mapping predictions. Hand-feel soil texture data from forest soils in France revealed hidden patterns of sands in terraces due to alluvial deposits along small rivers. Despite some measurement bias, these observations can provide valuable insights into soil processes and improve mapping accuracy. Efforts should be made to utilize these abundant but often overlooked datasets for better understanding and predicting soil characteristics.
