Australian grazing lands unlock lucrative soil carbon credits, outperforming global standards in cost-effectiveness.
This study compared different carbon offset standards for soil projects in Australian grazing lands. Researchers looked at three major standards to see which one works best for soil carbon projects in Aussie grazing areas. They checked various things like how new the standards are, how well they measure carbon, and how long the benefits last. The results show that soil carbon projects get more money from the Emissions Reduction Fund in Australia than from international standards like Verified Carbon and Gold. This is because the Emissions Reduction Fund pays more for soil carbon credits, which shows that they have strict rules for checking and confirming the carbon amounts. So, Aussie landholders might earn more by using the Emissions Reduction Fund for their soil carbon projects in places like Central Queensland.
