Qimbaba Forest Holds Key to Fighting Climate Change Through Carbon Sequestration
The Qimbaba forest in Ethiopia stores a significant amount of carbon, helping to combat climate change. By using sample plots and equations, researchers estimated that the forest holds around 25 tons of carbon per hectare. Most of this carbon is stored in natural trees, with some also in nurse trees. This shows that managing forests like Qimbaba can be a valuable tool in fighting climate change. To make the most of this potential and get financial support, it is suggested to include the forest in programs like REDD+ and the Kyoto Protocol's CDM.
