Mountain bird diversity driven by deterministic processes, not chance
Bird communities along the central Himalayan elevation gradient show different species at different sites. The study looked at how these communities change with elevation. They found that the types of birds change more than the number of birds at each site. The distance between sites affects the types of birds more than their numbers. The environment plays a big role in shaping bird diversity, with different bird species preferring different habitats. As elevation increases, the types of birds change more, while the number of birds at each site decreases. This shows that the environment plays a key role in determining which bird species are found at different elevations in the central Himalayas.
