The study looked at extreme rainfall in the upper Yangtze River area from 1961 to 2021. Overall, there is less rain and fewer rainy days. Extreme rainfall is less frequent but more intense and damaging. After 2000, extreme rainfall varied a lot, especially in intensity. The most extreme rainfall occurs in the main Yangtze River and Wujiang River areas. Jialing River and Wujiang River have the most intense extreme rainfall. Jialing River and Wujiang River also have the most accumulated extreme rainfall, while the Minjiang River has the highest intensity and frequency of extreme rainfall.
