Native tree reforestation in Rwanda boosts economy and environmental sustainability.
The study assessed the impact of planting native trees in Rwanda's Ibanda Makera Natural Forest. Researchers surveyed households near the forest and found that factors like age, gender, occupation, and distance to the forest affect the growth of native tree species. Benefits of planting native trees include community benefits, soil protection, carbon sequestration, job creation, and increased tourism demand. Native trees need less maintenance, are better suited to local conditions, and can improve property values. They also help reduce noise and air pollution, and lower the risk of invasive species. It's important for policymakers to consider using native tree species for a more sustainable environment.
