Smartphones Revolutionize Illuminance Measurement, Making Low-End Meters Obsolete.
Smartphones can be used to measure light levels accurately with the right calibration. By comparing smartphone readings to a calibrated meter, researchers found that non-calibrated measurements were slightly higher than the actual light levels. Two calibration methods were effective: using a single correction factor at the average light level, and using a power function. With proper calibration, smartphones can replace cheaper light meters for practical use.
