Polluted Lake Threatens Millions, Urgent Action Needed to Restore Water Quality
This report studies Taihu Lake's water quality and the impact of transferring water from the Yangtze River. Total nitrogen, phosphorus, and different nitrogen forms were analyzed from April 2009 to January 2010. The distribution and seasonal variations in these nutrients were examined. The study also looked at how the water transfer project affected water quality in the lake area. The researchers found that different nutrients and contaminants can influence cyanobacteria outbreaks in Taihu Lake. The new hydraulic and water quality model helped simulate the water transfer's effects in different lake areas.
