Incorporating crop residues boosts productivity and soil health in rice-wheat system.
A study was done to see how adding leftover plant material and flyash to soil affects rice and wheat growth in Jammu. They found that adding rice leftovers to wheat and wheat leftovers to rice increased crop productivity and nutrient uptake. Using flyash and old plant stubble also boosted productivity. Adding Trichoderma viride with nitrogen or farmyard manure as a starter helped soil decomposition and improved crop yield and soil health. Overall, adding plant residues and starters to the soil can increase crop productivity and improve soil quality in rice-wheat cropping systems.
