Poor households in Turkey face higher risk of catastrophic health expenses.
The study looked at how much money people in Turkey spend on healthcare and what factors affect this spending. They used data from surveys done in households from 2002 to 2008. The results showed that poor families are less likely to seek healthcare than non-poor families. Even after taking this into account, being poor still increases the risk of spending a lot on healthcare. Having health insurance can help protect families from having to spend too much on healthcare. These findings can help policymakers make changes to the healthcare system.
