Revolutionary tillage method boosts chickpea yield and weed control
The study looked at how different tillage methods and seed rates affect weed growth and yield of chickpeas in dryland conditions. Conventional tillage was better at controlling weeds and increasing grain and straw yields compared to no tillage. Using a seed rate of 80 kg/ha resulted in higher grain yield than both lower and higher seed rates, even though it had more weed biomass and lower straw yield. Overall, the combination of conventional tillage and a seed rate of 80 kg/ha seems to be the most promising for growing chickpeas in rainfed areas.
