New Wastewater Filtration Method Falls Short in Improving Effluent Quality
Wastewater filtration at a treatment plant in Idaho was studied using different filter media configurations. The goal was to improve effluent quality by removing pollutants like suspended solids and BODs. The study found that all filter beds were equally effective in removing these pollutants, but none consistently met the required effluent discharge standards. State standards allow for different types of filters based on media used, with most requiring backwash systems for maintenance. The study highlights the challenges in achieving high-quality effluent from wastewater filtration systems.
