Maize intercropping boosts crop yield and water efficiency in rainfed areas.
A study was done to see how well different crops grow together with maize in Rajasthan. They looked at how efficiently the plants used sunlight and rainwater. Maize grown with soybean had the best sunlight use, while maize with blackgram used rainwater most effectively. Maize with blackgram also gave the highest grain yield. Intercropping maize with other crops can increase overall productivity compared to growing maize alone.
