Land acquisition for hydropower project in China threatens village livelihoods.
The Xiaogushan Hydropower Project in China will acquire a small amount of land, affecting six households in Bajiaowan village. The land to be acquired includes state-owned barren and mountainous land, forest land, and grazing land. Due to existing land contracts, reallocating grazing land will be challenging for the displaced persons. The project will provide cash compensation for lost land, structures, crops, and trees, as well as subsidies for house removal and business losses. It will also restore irrigation facilities and maintain water supply levels. Special aid will be given to vulnerable households, including long-term employment opportunities.
