Revolutionize Crop Farming: Less Tillage, More Yield, Fuel Savings!
Researchers studied different soil tillage methods for wheat and maize crops from 1970 to 1995. They compared traditional ploughing with surface tillage using tools like disk harrows and chisels. For wheat, the tillage method didn't affect yield much, saving fuel by avoiding ploughing. But for maize, surface tillage led to lower yields due to soil compaction and more weeds. They found that using different tillage methods based on the crop being grown can improve yields and save resources.
