Adolescent girls with MMR struggle for inclusion but find satisfying friendships
Friendships and relationships with peers are important for teenagers, especially those with mild mental retardation. Five girls with this diagnosis were interviewed about their experiences. They want friends like everyone else, but struggle to fit in and feel lonely. Despite this, they have satisfying friendships, some with girls at a similar level of development. These girls face challenges in social interactions but also have positive relationships and best friends they are happy with. It's important to understand that each girl is unique, even if they share the same diagnosis.
