The St. Gotthard road tunnel was constructed with a focus on safety, including a parallel safety tunnel, connections between tunnels, air ducts, and ventilation shafts. A geological survey helped predict rock conditions, and the use of the first sliding floor in Europe was implemented. Various construction methods and equipment were used during the project.
