Livestock production changes in Montenegro threaten agricultural stability and economic growth.
Livestock production in northeastern Montenegro has undergone significant changes from 1964 to 2005. Economic factors like market fluctuations, low purchasing power, and lack of development strategies have influenced the number of cattle and sheep in the region. Initially, sheep dominated over cattle, but by 2005, both had equal representation. Livestock production mainly caters to household needs with a small portion for the market. To address these challenges, long-term strategies are needed to increase cattle numbers, improve production, and enhance product quality.
