Cryopreserved Ovaries Offer New Hope for Infertile Women
The researchers successfully preserved sheep ovaries using a DMSO-free solution with trehalose. They compared fresh ovaries with those preserved using DMSO and DMSO-free solutions. The DMSO-free ovaries showed minimal damage and low cell death compared to the DMSO group. The level of a protective protein called CIRP was highest in the DMSO-free group, indicating better preservation. This study suggests that trehalose-based cryoprotectants are effective for preserving sheep ovaries.
