The central bank of Bhutan issues its currency, the ngultrum, but Indian rupees also circulate in the country at the same value. This study looked at how this affects Bhutan's monetary policy using a money multiplier framework. The researchers found that Bhutan should focus on developing its financial sector to bring Indian rupees into its banking system. This will help strengthen the connection between money and economic activities in the country.
