New food hygiene legislation to ensure safer food for all.
The European Commission introduced new food hygiene legislation to improve food safety and regain consumer trust after food scandals. The laws focus on making sure food businesses follow good hygiene practices, use HACCP principles, and meet microbiological and temperature standards. The regulations cover the entire food chain, from production to consumption. The General Food Law and three Hygiene Regulations outline the responsibilities and requirements for food safety. Implementing measures were put in place in 2006 to ensure compliance with the new regulations. Guidance documents are available online to help explain the rules in simple terms.
