East Asian islands could meet 27% of energy needs with hydropower.
Hydropower plants on East Asian islands could help meet the growing energy needs. By combining elevation and runoff data, researchers found a total potential capacity of 2885 TWh per year. Large plants could provide 27%, small plants 39%, mini plants 28%, and micro plants 6% of this capacity. This study offers detailed information on specific hydropower locations, especially for micro hydropower, which was not available before.
