The researchers developed an advanced gasification process called IGCC with exergy recuperation to increase efficiency. By using high-temperature gas purification and autothermal reactions in the gasifier, they achieved a 4% efficiency improvement over standard methods. However, this required additional heat input. The gross thermal efficiency of the advanced IGCC system was 53.3% higher than the standard case. Increasing the turbine inlet temperature further raised efficiency to over 57%.
